Drove to Palermo. Only an hour away . Motor way no traffic. Beaches beautiful and empty hardly anyone on them only a couple of locals. Restaurant cheap and food fabulous

Mixed, beach restaurants people very good on the whole . Found Sicily to be dirty outside beach resorts masses of rubbish at roadside, online maps ineffective in towns, inadequate / damaged road signs frequent.

For UK drivers Sicily can be an experience not for the faint hearted. Palermo is like the Wild West for driving and I would strongly recommend leaving the car in a car park. Make sure you have maximum insurance and keep an eye in your rear view mirror as Sicilians all think they are Grand Prix Drivers. Great fun tho'
